🚗 Car Rental
Optional but liberating — a car means you can beach-hop on your own schedule and explore both sides of the island freely. Driving is on the right (same as USA). Roads are small and sometimes unmarked — GPS is essential. Budget 45 minutes to learn the island layout.
Do you need a car? If you're happy relying on taxis ($20–35/trip to French side), you don't need one. Taxis are safe and available everywhere. But for the beach-hopper who wants to pull over at a new cove on a whim, a rental ($45–70/day) pays for itself quickly — especially for a 6-night stay.

🚗 Driving tips for Sint Maarten:
- Drive on the right — same as USA
- Speed limits are low (30–50 km/h on most roads) — follow them; police do check
- The border crossing to French Saint-Martin is unmarked — just keep driving north
- Parking at most beaches is free; Philipsburg has paid lots near the boardwalk
